CV
I was appointed university professor at the University Hospital of Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich in 1998 and headed the Hormone and Fertility Center there until March 2024. Previously, I worked at renowned clinics and institutes both in Germany and abroad – including the Center for Reproduction and Transplantation Immunology in Indianapolis (USA), Brigham and Women's Hospital of Harvard Medical School in Boston, the Medical School of Aberdeen (UK), and the Johann Wolfgang von Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main.
Throughout my career, I have held numerous leading positions in professional societies. I was Vice President of the American Society of Reproductive Immunology (ASRI), President of the German Society for Reproductive Medicine (DGRM) and of the umbrella organization for reproductive biology and medicine (DVR). I was also Vice President of the German Society for Gynecology and Obstetrics (DGGG), a board member of the German Menopause Society, and Chairman of the Association of University Reproductive Medicine Centers (URZ).
Furthermore, I am an elected member of the Zurich Circle, an expert commission for specialized issues in gynecological endocrinology and hormonal contraception. As an appointed member of the advisory board on "assisted reproduction" of the Bavarian State Ministry of Health and Care, I also contribute my expertise to political decision-making processes. In addition, I serve as an examiner for the specialization in gynecological endocrinology and reproductive medicine at the Bavarian State Medical Association and as an assessor for the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) in Brussels.
Since 2015, I have worked as a Consultant for Reproductive Endocrinology at Songziniao Hospital in Wuhan, China. From 2012 to 2019, I also contributed to the statement "Reproductive Medicine in Germany – For Contemporary Legislation" published by the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina.
For my intensive clinical and scientific activities in the field of reproductive immunology—particularly regarding the role of the immune system and coagulation in the conception and course of pregnancy—I was awarded the title of Fellow of Clinical Reproductive Immunology (FCRI) by the American Society of Reproductive Immunology in 2021. I also received a further international academic title (MIAC) through my elected membership in the International Academy of Cytology.
My research focuses on the function and aging of the ovaries, the influence of trace elements, vitamins and immunological processes, as well as the mechanisms of embryo implantation and the causes of implantation failure and miscarriages.
In addition, I have authored and co-authored numerous books, book chapters, and a large number of scientific publications.
